AOL's Push Poll Gone Awry

Today, I signed onto AOL to find yet another scathing article against a Republican. This time, it was V.P. Cheney's so-called "waterboarding" comments. Of course, AOL wants to know what the "popular thought" on this subject is and they put up a poll. Boy, were they surprised, I bet!!!

Jkarl on the Upcoming Election!

ELECTION 2006, STATUS QUO OR GOP BLOODBATH?

With the off year elections less than a week away, if one is to believe the neverending polling data, the President's job approval falls somewhere between 30 and 40 percent, take your pick. Add to that the canvassing data which reflects the voters less than positive opinion of Congress bottoming out at roughly 17 to 20 percent, conventional wisdom predicts a Democratic Party takeover of both Houses...possibly by a wide margin in the lower body.

The conventional wisdom of whom? For example, who are we to believe---- the polls which have been proven wrong in the past three elections or perhaps the pundits and talking heads who snicker in gleeful apprehension or glumly preach doom and gloom depending upon which side of the political fence they may reside? Or is it the scornful confidence of the out of power Democrats in eager anticipation of a return engagement avenging their 1994 defeat.

A more objective observation may cast a pall on this so called conventional wisdom-----I call your attention to one of the most formidable politicians in recent history, Tip O'Neill, the late Democratic Speaker of the House of Representatives whose oft quoted "All politics is local" has long been the measurement of true political acumen. It is highly possible, maybe even a probability, that some 80 percent of the people disapprove of the present Congress. Nevertheless, when balanced against O'Neill's maxim, one must understand that, with few exceptions, the voter's dim view of Congress as a whole is "toss them all out except for my Congressman."

A second factor to consider is that while President Bush's favorable ratings may in fact range from mediocre to abysmal, insofar as I am aware his name does not appear on any ballot. The assumption that a once popular President's coattails becomes automatically an albatross to his party once the bloom is off the sage is far from established fact and those who buy into that theory may very well be whistling past the graveyard.

Locally as well as nationwide, editors and syndicated columnists are trumpeting the real or imagined failure of the present administration and urging a vote against virtually any Republican candidate, their basis for this advice being little other than the incumbent's support of the President. That this recommended action seldom mentions the name, credentials, nor ideas of the alternate candidate does not appear relevant to those urging change for little other than change sake falls somewhere between a serious lack of forethought and total mindlessness.

We may be destined for a change in leadership in one or both Houses of Congress and, inasmuch as my normally clear crystal ball is a bit foggy, I offer no predictions. The polling data and predictions notwithstanding however, I see very little positive in the way of leadership and ideas offered by the Democratic Party which would cause Republicans to jump ship or for nominal independents to come aboard in great numbers.

Merely outshouting your opponent and demanding a vote against its candidates without offering alternative or new ideas is hardly a compelling rationale either to swap allegiance or sit out the election. A majority of the electorate looks for a reason to vote for something or someone as a positive choice is far more attractive than the negative.

My political persuasion is no secret, I am a conservative who cast his first vote for President Eisenhower but have been around long enough to realize that, while disappointing losing an election is not the end of our world. However, the very thought of ceding the Congress to a leadership which often appears to consider Walmart a bigger threat than international terrorism does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

"If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it ... whose fault is it, the cats or the uncovered meat?" the sheik said in his sermon. Know Thy Enemy

This all from Centcom.mil

"What is the goal of the enemy? Often we think of the future as next week or next year. What might the world look like 100 years from now? In the second edition of "The Nature of the Enemy" we take a look at Al Qaeda’s plan of a global Caliphate, the thwarted dirty bomb plot and the extremist’s use of the English-language media.

Al Qaeda and some Islamic extremist groups have stated that their ultimate goal is to restore a caliphate encompassing all former and current Muslim lands. The totalitarian state would impose a strict interpretation of Islamic law, curbing freedom of speech and religion, and women’s and minority rights.

Though maps vary, the plan would extend the caliphate into the middle of Africa, South Asia and parts of Europe and Southeast Asia. After the historic caliphate is established, some plans show long-term efforts for it to encompass the entire globe."

Kinky Friedman, I'll tell you why the hell not.

I've seen some bumper stickers that say "Kinky Friedman. Why the Hell not?" Seriously, Texans. Is that how you want people to determine who they vote for? By the finicky "why not?" argument? Puhlease.

So far, one of his biggest arguments for himself seems to be that he's neither a Republican nor a Democrat. I say pick a party and stick with it. Change it from within. No party will ever be perfect, so it's best to go with the one you agree with most.

After perusing Kinky's website, I must say that he sounds like a Democrat with his statistical analysis of education and healthcare in Texas.

On Healthcare he states: "Texas ranks rock-bottom in providing for the basic needs of its youngest and poorest residents. More than one fifth of Texas children have no health insurance at all. "

Democrat Chris Bell says on his website: Texas has the highest rate of uninsured adults and children in the US. One in four (25%) adults do not have insurance coverage – 5.6 million. The national average is 15 percent).

Governor Rick Perry states: Access to affordable professional medical care is important to all Texans. To this end Governor Perry consistently supported new professional medical schools to meet the growing health needs of Texans, led efforts to keep doctors and nurses from having to fight frivolous lawsuits in court instead of delivering health care, and promoted options for small employers to more easily offer private insurance coverage to employees.

How does Kinky Freidman sound any different than Chris Bell? Sounds to me like Rick Perry is the one with no nonsense ideas to have government help the healthcare industry. IMO, the government shouldn't be involved with healthcare except at a minimum, not a maximum.

Kinky's ideas to "solving" healthcare isn't much different than any other Socialist Democrat running for any other office in the country. Raise taxes, raise fees on HMOs and try to institute nationalist healthcare in Texas. Kinky's TexasCare plan is one reason why the hell not.

Next, we have education and once again Kinky sounds more like Democrat Chris Bell than an Independent. Both websites say the education system is failing Texan children and what a terrible tragedy it is. What neither seems to admit is that for the past ten years, Republican legislators and governors have been trying to clean up a Democratic mess regarding education. Up until just recently, Texas was run by liberal Democrats, and it's just difficult to clean up bureaucratic messes in no-time flat, especially when Democrats like Martin Frost are stonewalling your every move.

The truth is that education in Texas has gotten much better and just because Governor Perry's opponents say it isn't so doesn't make it not so.

What is Kinky's proposal for "solving" education? "Slots for Tots" (more gambling), Increasing teacher salaries (which have gone up the last two years w/o Kinky), more taxes on oil and gas companies, closing "corporate" loopholes (??might be right about that one??), abolishing the TAKS test (ie. take away accountability in education).

The last Kinky education proposal is stated as "Outsourcing sports funding to sports companies/retailers". What? Is he saying that sports should be taken out of the public school and we should give into all advertising? Maybe to subsidize, but not as a main income, and they're already doing that. After Sports, Music Education would be the next to go, and in my mind, that makes Kinky Friedman enemy #1. There's another why the hell not.

Another interesting tidbit that I found on Kinky's website is that he used to "question the sport of hunting but no longer". Unfortunately, it took him all the way until October 16 and the apparent persuasion of many hunters and fishermen in the state of Texas to get him to change his mind. Ban hunting! Why the hell not?!

Kinky is pro-abortion. Kinky is for state funding of stem cell research (notice he does not distinguish between adult, fetal donated and aborted fetus stem cells). Kinky is for gay marriage.

Things that Kinky says he's for that might be in the more moderate to conservative range in politics is that he is pro-2nd amendment (but I would be wary of gun control laws), he says he would put the National Guard on the Mexican border (very popular, I'm sure), he is ambiguous at best on capital punishment, and he is for gay equality rights (I agree that all people should be treated with respect, but how far would he go with the political correctness end of it?). However, the only one of these issues that he would have any real say towards is putting the National Guard on the border. Whether or not he'd go through with it and to what extent is anyone's guess.

Finally, Kinky is against the Trans-Texas Corridor. My message to people about this issue has to do with history. Back in the pre-1900s, there were once good sized cities and towns with all kinds of river crossings like ferries and bridges, and you would have to pay a toll to cross them. When the train companies were making plans where to build their train tracks, they approached these places as a possible route for their trains. Those who said "yes" to the trains are still on the map today. Those who said "no" are now mostly ghosttowns if they still exist at all. Washington-on-the-Brazos is a prime example.

Does Kinky really want Texas to fall into the dustbin of history as the state that could have been? That Corridor will be built, whether its Trans-Texas, Trans-New Mexico, Trans-Arizona or Trans-California. Heck, they could even Trans-Canada the whole thing.

How about this bumper sticker? "Kinky Friedman. Hell no!"

Fox's John Gibson on the Muslim "Veil"

Little Green Footballs brought to my attention that John Gibson made the statement "no Sharia Laws. No Veils. If you're here, be American." He also said that he saw the veil (hijab) as a sign of separation and of subculture. I AGREE!

I will go so far to say that I see the veil as a sign of repression of women and that women should not be made to wear them by their husbands or their governments. Their reasoning to wearing veils is beyond ludicrous.

Check out this quote: "The Khomeinist version of the hijab, invented in the 1970s and now popular in many countries, including the United States, covers a woman's entire body but allows her face and hands to be exposed. Hijab theoreticians agree on one claim: a woman's hair emanates dangerous rays that could drive men wild with sexual lust and thus undermine social peace."

WHAT???? ARE THEY AFRAID OF PHEREMONES???? Control yourself, boys.

And that pretty much is my whole point. Why in Muslim society do the men seek to control women to the point of repression instead of making men control themselves to the point of self-worth? IMO, A man who can control his "animal side" is a man worthy of my respect (thus Bill Clinton does not fall into that fold). A man who seeks to control ME so that he can go about his willy-nilly way will more likely come face to face with consternation, disgust and if necessary, a 2 x 4. See how the "animal" in the man can bring out the "animal" in a woman?

Good God, I love my husband. :)

"Common Good"

Let's see. Democratic Senate candidate Ned Lamont is using the phrase "common good" over and over and his Democrat buddies are starting to do the same. Where have I heard that term before....

"1929 "Comrade Lenin wrote... 'Communist labour.... is labour performed because it has become a habit to work for common good, and because of a conscious realization (that has become a habit) of the necessity of working for the common good--labour as the requirement of a healthy organism.'" 126"

Not that there's anything wrong with that...............??

Several Editorials Worth Reading

Over the last week, I've read several editorials that are somewhat related. The first one deals with the liberal media's ignorance towards Harry Reid's bogus tax-free land deal, the second is the conservative reaction to media bias and ignorance, and the third is an attempt to correct the media's false impression to every person on the planet that Christians and Nazis are somehow related ideologically. Bad liberal media! Bad bad bad!

The Media Scandal by Jed Babbin

"Why is it that none of the major television networks or newspapers have managed to pay attention to the biggest real scandal of the 2006 campaign season, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid's real estate shenanigans? According to yesterday's AP report, Reid pocketed a $1.1 million windfall on the sale of some Las Vegas property he didn't own at the time of the sale. This makes Hillary Clinton's futures trading venture look like amateur hour. And it's time for conservatives to act because the biggest scandal is that the media are burying the story."

Conservatives Find New Media Homes by Thomas D. Segel

"All of this adds up to an interesting picture. Mainstream or traditional media outlets continue to decline. Fox News, with its "fair and balanced" slogan and charges of blatant conservatism by the left increases its numbers every year. Talk radio has become the electronic home of conservative thought and e-zines such as American Daily, GOPUSA, The Conservative Voice, Capitol Hill Coffee Shop, ChronWatch, and The USA Sentinel continue to attract new readers. As many are now prone to say, conservatives have found a home and it is with the new media."

Were Nazis Christians? Are Christians Fascists? by Marvin Olasky

"Some people cite an aged Martin Luther's criticism of Judaism and call him a Nazi forerunner, but Poewe quotes a statement of the pro-Nazi German Faith Movement: "We have no point of connection with Luther, for we have no sense of a relationship to the Bible as a godly holy book, nor to Christ as a Messiah-Savior." She also shows how Hitler himself wanted to kill not only all Jews but also fervent Christians who would not bow to him. He said, on April 7, 1933, "Nothing will prevent me from eradicating totally, root and branch, all Christianity in Germany." "

Nancy Pelosi Thinks Women are only good for Cleaning Houses?

Who is Nancy Pelosi kidding?

"Maybe it will take a woman to clean up the House," she said, referring to the likelihood that she would become House speaker if the Democrats do pick up the 15 seats they need to become the majority party.

Is she saying that woman are only good for cleaning houses? What kind of pre-stone age stereotype is she trying to tap into with that kind of a statement? As a liberated career woman, I resent her suggestion that I do all the house cleaning myself without my husband's help. We both work. We both bring in the dough. We both clean the friggin house.

Nancy, take your socialist policies and sweep them out the door. If you wait too long, the voters will do the sweeping for you at the ballot box and you'll see a house cleaning done the right way.

Jkarl on a FBI Raid, Shakir Hamoodi

PROBABLE CAUSE BETTER DETERMINED BY JUDICIARY THAN BY ACTIVISTS

It is not all difficult to understand the concern, the dismay and even the horror vocalized by the friends, neighbors, acquaintances...in short, by all of us over the FBI's recent raid on and subsequent search and seizure of property from Columbia businessman Shakir Hamoodi's home. No one wishes to believe ill of a person known either personally or by reputation and, least of all, that the subject may be suspected of serious crimes against the United States.

That those who know the gentleman are rallying to his defense is to be expected as are those with but minimal recognition is hardly surprising also in that belief in a person's innocence until proven guilty along with fierce support for the underdog is the American way. Proclaiming not only his innocence but also his dedication to the community and to world peace have been the subject of editorial commentary, letters to editors, hotline communications and demonstrations by local religious leaders, peace activists and others displaying both sympathy and concern.

The gist of this outpouring of support travels a number of paths before converging on the common conclusion that the Columbia businessman has been targeted unjustly and has been judged guilty without due process. The allegations include, either overtly or by innuendo, racial, religious or political profiling, illegal search and seizure, FBI employment of fear tactics and overall government intimidation without oversight. If these are as purported---- -true assessments ----then we have experienced a tragedy of monumental proportions, one which destroys the very fabric of our existence.

However, when one takes an objective view, devoid of emotion or intuition, one is confronted immediately with real tragedy----the attack on the Twin Towers and on the Pentagon, an event that took the lives of nearly 3,000 innocent civilians. When one adds thereto, the deaths of 241 Marines and Sailors in the 1983 Beirut truck bombing, the first attack on the World Trade Center, the terrorist attacks on American Embassies and the assault on the U. S.S. Cole, there emerges a stark realization that this is not a game but rather a determined effort aimed at our destruction, one which requires our government to investigate all evidentiary leads, public dissent notwithstanding.

The FBI search of Mr. Hamoodi's home was one which followed proper and lawful procedure in that a warrant was obtained from the U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri. In order to obtain this search warrant, the federal agents had to adhere to established procedural rules and provide evidence of probable cause sufficient to influence the judge to issue the warrant. For reasons of both national security and protection of his constitutional right to privacy, we are not yet privy to that which established probable cause nor should we be for obvious reasons.

Emotion, political beliefs, and any number of opinions and biases will often cause people to arrive at conclusions which are often premature, unsubstantiated by fact and totally erroneous. And, each of us owns the inalienable right not only to hold but also to express that opinion vocally, in writing or by lawful assembly----a privilege not universally enjoyed by the citizens of all nations. But, do we really wish to handcuff our law enforcement agencies by bowing to the vagaries of public opinion?

While I, as do most of you, hope fervently that Shakir Hamoodi is proven innocent, rather than accept the exhortations to that effect by his friends, neighbors, local religious leaders, peace activists and the usual anti-everything crowd, I intend to cast my lot with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Western District Court. When national security is at stake, public outcry and intuition notwithstanding, it is much more prudent to dance with the "one that brung you" than to trust the whims of perhaps well meaning but uninformed activists.

Phelp's "Church" Group Protesting in my Old Stomping Grounds

God bless Edward Reynolds, Jr.

This man was from my hometown on Beaumont, TX, and he went to war in Iraq. There, he was killed in the fighting on September 25th. He was engaged with 3 children. God bless the families and God bless his soul.

Unfortunately, the kooks from Fred Phelp's church from Kansas are going to be at his funeral this Saturday. Thankfully, they cannot get within 500 feet of the funeral via state law. Not far enough, IMO. These are the same kooks who showed up to say God blew up the Columbia to punish the USA for homosexuality. CHRISTIANS DO NOT BELIEVE THEIR CLAPTRAP!!!

If you wish to show your support to the family and to the church where the funeral is to be held, let me help you on your way. I'm going to leave them and Pastor Airon Reynolds (the deceased's cousin) a message on their guestbook at http://www.bordenchapel.org/ (look for guestbook link) . I hope that you will, too. They need to know that many people are on their side and that we appreciate Edward Reynolds, Jr. It's not a political thing. It's the polite and right thing to do. The date for the funeral is Oct. 7, 2007.

Similarities Between Rabid Media Coverage of Foley and Vietnam Era Media

Reconstructing Vietnam by Bluto
http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/184869.php

Ultimately, that's what the Foley scandal is a part of, stumbling into another Vietnam. The Left and the Democratic Party are so heavily invested in our defeat in Iraq and Afghanistan that they will have to withdraw our troops in order to maintain power. Emboldened, just as in Mogadishu in 1993, our enemies will follow us home.

You see, Vietnam wasn't lost on the battlefield, though many of you are probably too young to remember what went down, and have been duly indoctrinated by the NEA.

Vietnam was lost in the halls of Congress, mainly because conservatives who knew better finally caved to the twin assaults of the anti-war Left and the nascent advocacy journalism movement. How many of you knew that, in our "defeat" during the Tet Offensive the Viet Cong, those black-pajamaed folk heroes of the Left, were virtually annihilated, never able to muster a force above company strength after their losses in Tet?

Difference Between Muslims and Christians

Last Sunday, we sang a song about the "trees will clap their hands as you go out with joy." Funny how this reminded me of what Muslims say trees will do. Here is section from the Bible book Isaiah, Chapter 55.

"You will leave Babylon with joy; you will be led out of the city in peace. The mountains and hills will burst into singing, and the trees will shout for joy. Cypress trees will grow where now there are briers; myrtle trees will come up in place of thorns. This will be a sign that will last forever, a reminder of what I, the LORD, have done."

A foreigner who has joined the LORD's people should not say, "The LORD will not let me worship with his people." A man who has been castrated should never think that because he cannot have children, he can never be part of God's people.

The LORD says to such a man, "If you honor me by observing the Sabbath and if you do what pleases me and faithfully keep my covenant, then your name will be remembered in my Temple and among my people longer than if you had sons and daughters. You will never be forgotten."

Now, we have a Hadith traditional saying attributed to Muhammed.

"A reliable Hadith [tradition] says: 'The Jews will fight you, but you will be set to rule over them.' What could be more beautiful than this tradition? 'The Jews will fight you' – that is, the Jews have begun to fight us. 'You will be set to rule over them' – Who will set the Muslim to rule over the Jew? Allah… Until the Jew hides behind the rock and the tree."

"But the rock and tree will say: 'Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, a Jew hides behind me, come and kill him.' Except for the Gharqad tree, which is the tree of the Jews."

Pretty stark difference if you ask me.

Foley and Reynolds, from the Same Fold

Let me start by saying what Representative Mark Foley did was disgusting. As a teacher, he makes me sick to my stomach. How an adult can prey on someone so young is beyond me. Even if its "just" email and instant messages, it's highly inappropriate. If he did solicit sex from those boys, then he should go straight to jail.

I think it's becoming clear that congresspeople should go through screening just like everyone else. Would Foley have passed a criminal background check? Well, the good news is that the guy who is going to replace him is a bigger conservative, but the whole thing is quite unfortunate.

It sounds as if Dennis Hastert was not aware of the sexual nature of the emails Foley sent. It's the IMs that are the worst, and we need to remember that in the game of politics, it's difficult to discern truth from conjecture where allegations like these are concerned. Hastert is blameless. Democrats are going to try and make all kind of political hay about this, but how can they do that and not take the same responsibility for Clinton's pardoning of a child molester in their own party?

That child molester was Democrat Mel Reynods, US Representative for Illinois. The same district that Dem. Jesse Jackson Jr now represents. He was caught having sexual relations with a 16 year old campaign worker. Absolutely disgusting behavior. He and Foley are of the same fold, CHILD PREDATORS.

Reynolds was caught on tape saying things like this...

"In one tape, Reynolds asks Heard to describe sex with her lesbian lover, then asks if he can join Heard in bed with "Theresa," a fictitious 15-year-old Catholic-school girl, whom Heard invented apparently to tempt Reynolds. At one point he begs her to provide lewd photos of the girl. "Jesus," Reynolds says on the tapes, "a Catholic. [...] Did I win the Lotto?""

He was convicted for solicitation of child pornography (as well as other things), and this may be what Foley is looking forward to as well. Reynolds was also sentenced additional years in jail for bank fraud a year before he was to be released from prison for the sex charges. While he was serving those charges, then President Bill Clinton pardoned him and he spent the rest of his sentence in a half-way house. Knowing what we know about Bill Clinton, it shouldn't surprise anyone that he felt Reynolds should have been pardoned.

Did you know that Reynolds ran for office again? YUP! In 2004, he ran for his congressional seat again, and (thankfully?) he was defeated by Jesse Jackson Jr. Wait, wait. Jesse Jackson Sr had already hired Reynolds to work in Rainbow/PUSH. WTH?

Democrats cannot say that one of their own has not participated in this kind of disgusting sexual predatorial behavior. It's not a party problem, it's a people problem. Sexual predators come from all walks of life, and we must always be on guard against these disgusting people.

Update: Some conservative bloggers are calling for Hastert's resignation. I don't agree with them in the least. There is a difference between making sure that guilty people go punished and witch hunts. Going after Hastert is the wrong thing to do. I think you guys are falling for the liberal propaganda and if you keep singing their siren songs, you are going to crucify the wrong guy. Foley did this on his own. He alone should be punished. If you keep letting the media convince you to bag on our own conservative leaders at key moments, then you are helping them defeat your causes.

"Gentle Warrior"

This is an Air Force soldier holding a little Iraqi girl to help her sleep. Her family was slain by "insurgents" and as you can see, they tried to kill her too. Look at the bullet wound in the back of her head. Of course, she is being treated by Americans. He's the only one that could comfort her, and his compassion shows.

Here is the story that accompanied this photo:

Got a tough, but heartwarming story and a picture of (CMSgt) John Gebhardt in Iraq. For those that did not know John, he was our former Med Group Chief…Dave Nordel replaced him.

Anyway, his wife talked with mine last evening and sent this picture. Mindy related that this little girl’s entire family was executed…they intended to execute her also and shot her in the head…but they failed to kill her.

She was cared for by John’s hospital and healing up, but has been crying and moaning. The nurses said John is the only one she seems to calm down with, so John has spent the last four nights holding her while they both sleep in that chair. The girl is coming along with her healing.
John comes home in early October.
